Tesla Owner Trolls Elon Musk With 'I'm Over Elon' Bumper Sticker

One electric car owner has reached his limit with Elon Musk, but he's not ready to part ways with his Tesla despite his distaste for the company's leader.

Tesla CEO Musk has faced near-constant criticism since his purchase of Twitter was finalized earlier this year for $44 billion. Since taking over Twitter, Musk has fired a large portion of the social media giant's employees and faced criticism for subjecting the app to misinformation while allowing previously banned Twitter users such as former President Donald Trump and hip-hop artist Kanye West to return to the platform. Rather than boycott the tech giant entirely, one Tesla owner is making his thoughts known by creating a bumper sticker.

Tesla owner Tom Gordon told Newsweek in an email that he created a bumper sticker reading, "I'm over Elon. I still like my Tesla." He placed the sticker on his Tesla's bumper alongside another sticker that reads, "It was better when he just made cool [s***]." Gordon said he created the bumper sticker for his Tesla to combat his displeasure about Musk.

Gordon said Musk was a disappointment. He said he cares about the earth and the environment, which is one of the reasons he purchased an electric vehicle, but now he believes Musk is "[s*******] on us and our ideas."

Gordon went on to compare Musk to Howard Hughes, an American business magnate who participated in a wide array of industries, including engineering, film producing, piloting and philanthropy. Musk recently has extended his business limits by venturing out of the engineering world and into social media ownership. Gordon said Musk's actions prove he has "lost touch with reality."

"Seems to be a virus billionaires get, they believe every thought they have is correct," Gordon told Newsweek in an email. "Really disappointing because there is so much promise with the technologies he got behind, and there still is, but the man is truly disappointing. I feel bad for all the scientists, engineers, designers and production people that have poured heart and soul into SpaceX, Tesla and other companies to have him just let his ego ruin it."

Since adding the bumper stickers to his Tesla, Gordon said he has enjoyed the reaction from other drivers who see them, and hasn't encountered anyone who felt angry about them.

Musk, who has previously found trolling humorous when he's not the subject—such as when two men pretended to be recently fired Twitter employees with the names "Ligma" and "Johnson" and appeared on the news as such—has not always taken kindly to jokes targeting him. On Wednesday, Twitter suspended the ElonJet account, which uses publicly available data to track the movements of high-profile figures, including Musk and others. Musk previously said he wouldn't ban the account.

Several accounts also were suspended earlier this week when Twitter users shared videos of comedian Dave Chappelle's San Francisco show, in which Musk made a surprise appearance. Musk was booed by the crowd after joining Chappelle on stage, with the comedian making comments defending his multi-billionaire guest by saying the people booing had terrible seats and accused them of looting stores in California.
